Dates for 2012 – June 8-12
Join us for an exciting environmental education experience in the cool green mountains of the George Washington National Forest of Virginia. The five-day session features classroom lectures, field studies and craft projects. Classes are typically one or two hours in duration with most of the time spent outdoors or in hands-on activities. Structure is informal, with questions and input from other instructors and attendees encouraged.
Our volunteer instructors, many of whom are former campers and now professionals in the sciences, will discuss the ambiguities of nature in relation to human values and needs. Some processes are destructive but inevitable; others may have mixed blessings. Strategies vital for survival to one organism may be harmful to others. We’ll also learn about aspects of nature that are not widely understood.
Early registration is recommended! To register, you must pay by check, $210 per person.
CLASSES AND OTHER ACTIVITIES
The preliminary schedule of classes will be posted in early spring.
In addition to classes we will have:
• Morning birdwalks
• Afternoon yoga
• Evening stargazing
• Evening walks for salamanders and owls
• Half-day field trip
• Sharing of favorite nature books
• Folk-singing and music
• Short hikes around the camp site

Early registration is recommended, since the number of lower-bunk beds is limited. Camp is located about halfway between Staunton and Lexington, VA, east of I-81.
The $210 fee per person includes great food, lodging in rustic single-sex cabins, insurance, and all materials and supplies. (Click here to view photographs of the Nature Camp facilities.)
